The Jamaica Fire Brigade is reporting that a fire at the Retirement dump in St James is under control.
The dump is operated by the National Solid Waste Management Authority.
It is also reported that the smoke which had blanketed nearby communities such as Irwin and Granville has dissipated.
Public relations officer at the fire brigade, Emeleo Ebanks, says two units are responding to the blaze.
Schools in the surrounding communities say they have not been affected by this morning's smoke.
The cause of the fire, which was allegedly started overnight, has not been ascertained.
This is the fourth fire at the dump in less than a week.
