Farmers breathe a sigh of relief

Farmers across Jamaica are expressing relief that Jamaica was spared the onslaught of Hurricane Matthew.

President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, Norman Grant, told Real Business on Power 106 FM this morning that farmers had been very concerned about the impending storm.

Meanwhile, Grant says coffee which was contaminated by the recent flooding of Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston is to be destroyed in the presence of witnesses to assure markets of the integrity of future exports.

Grant says the coffee to be destroyed is worth about US$5 to US$6 million.

The Wallenford Coffee Company was affected by severe flooding along Marcus Garvey Drive last month.

It was caused by a pile-up of garbage which blocked the drains, affected several motorists and marooned people in their business places for more than an hour.
