St Thomas councillors concerned about murder spike

Councillors in the St Thomas Municipal Corporation are raising concern about the increase in murders in the parish and the ability of the police to respond.
Speaking at yesterday's monthly meeting of the corporation, councillor for the White Horses Division Hubert Williams, said he was particularly worried.
Eleven people have been killed in St Thomas since January 1, compared with five for the corresponding period last year.
Williams said the unexpected increase in killings has left the parish in panic.
He also described as unacceptable the absence of police vehicles at various stations in the parish.

The concern was raised after Councillor for the Dalvey Division, Michael McLeod, detailed a recent case in his area where a man was shot during a robbery and was reportedly unable to get the assistance of the police.
It was reported that there was no vehicle at the police station.
McLeod said the injured man was transported by a private vehicle.
