Hopes dashed as body of Clarendon fisherman found at sea
Sarah Wright was holding out hope for the return of her 45-year-old son after he went missing at sea off the coast of Mitchell Town, Clarendon on Sunday morning.
Livine Pommells and his usual partner left the fishing beach aboard a boat shortly after 8 o’clock in the morning.
According to Wright, her son’s fishing partner identified only as Damion said after catching some fish, Pommells was searching for another of his fishing pots in the Alcoa reef area when the engine cover blew off.
Pommells reportedly jumped from the boat to recover it.
It is reported that while Pommells was in the water retrieving the engine cover, a rope on the boat got entangled with the engine propeller, shutting it down.
Wright said Damion reported that he waited for Pommels to resurface but after some time, he failed to do so and it became clear that there was a problem.
She said an alarm was raised and the Coast Guard contacted but it wasn’t until Monday that a search was carried out and the body found.
“I was hoping for the best,” said a bereaved Wright, insisting, however, that the search should have started on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Wilson said her son’s death has hit her hard.
“I didn’t sleep last night,” she said relating that her son usually visit her every day.
