Ronaldo follows Messi out of World Cup
Cristiano Ronaldo became the second big name player to crash out of the World Cup today after Portugal were beaten 2-1 by Uruguay.
Earlier today, France outlasted Argentina, ending yet another attempt at World Cup glory by Lionel Messi. Edinson Cavani gave Uruguay the lead after just six minutes of play, heading home a Luis Suarez cross.
Pepe gave Portugal some hope when he found the equaliser in the 55th minute. However, Cavani struck a well-placed shot in the 62nd minute to ensure that Uruguay moves on to the quarter finals.
Portugal's defeat has triggered speculation that this could be Ronaldo's last World Cup.
