Police identify men killed on Mandela Highway
The St Catherine South police have identified the three men who were fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with police yesterday along Mandela Highway.
They are 21-year-old Davian McLean of Cooreville Gardens, Kingston 20; Salime Fitzgerald, otherwise called ‘Smeagle’, of New Lincoln Road, Kingston 5; and 20-year-old Paul Donaldson, of Seaview Avenue, Kingston 13.
The Gleaner understands that the police were seeking to apprehend ‘Smeagle’, who was wanted in connection with the shooting death of Corporal Christopher Smith on December 6, 2024 at a Texaco gas station in St Andrew.
According to the police, members of the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Division intercepted a black Honda Fit travelling in the direction of Spanish Town, shortly before midday.
The police reported that the occupants opened fire, triggering a shootout that left Smeagle and two other men fatally wounded.
The injured men were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
There were no reports of injury to any member of the police team.
The police say they seized one Taurus pistol affixed with a magazine containing nine rounds and a Bereta Pistol affixed with a magazine containing nine rounds.
The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe.
