Lennon aren't afraid of Charlemont - Thomas

Byjeon Thomas, coach of Lennon High School, said he is not concerned about their opponents, Charlemont High School being labelled favourites to take the ISSA/Wata Ben Francis title.

Thomas said that he is focussed on his boys executing the game plan when they take on Charlemont in the second match of the semi-finals doubleheader at the Juici Patties Park this afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

In the first game, Petersfield and Port Antonio, who both knocked out former champions in St James High and Glenmuir , respectively, at the quarter-final stage, will go up against each other at 1:00 p.m.

"Yes, I know persons are saying they (Charlemont) are the favourites, but I think every team that is in the semi-finals have an equal chance of winning the Ben Francis Cup. What we are looking to do is stick as close as possible to the game plan and see how best we can execute. We are looking for a favourable result," said Thomas.

Thomas believes that despite all the excitement around Charlemont, it will not add any pressure to either team. He, however, said that the semi-finals usually bring their own mental pressure.

"I don't think the mental pressure will come into play in regards to who is favourites. I think the only pressure will be performing in a semi-final knowing that you're just one step away from a final," said Thomas.

Good game

"I think it will be a good game by both teams. All the players involved know that this is the last chance for silverware. I know we are going to be up for a very good game," he added.

Thomas, who is in his first season at Lennon, said that winning the title would mean a lot to him as a coach and would give them something to build on for next season.

"It would mean the world to me. Knowing it is my first year and we had a productive year would be awesome. Also, it would be nice knowing we have something to hold on to going into next season so we could build on," said Thomas.
