Brimming with confidence - Herbert Morrison expect defence of U16, U-19 titles against St James, York Castle High
Western Bureau:
Herbert Morrison Technical High School is confident that they can extend their ISSA Western Conference Basketball Under-16 and -19 titles to six straight when they take on St James High and York Castle High, respectively, at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Court this afternoon.
Herbert Morrison head coach Dave Black is confident that they’ll win both titles again and said that they are looking forward to the all-island playoffs, where he believes the real competition will be.
“We are pretty confident,” Black said. “From July last year, we have been preparing ourselves for moments like this. For Herbert Morrison in the Western Conference, every year, it is the all-island championships that we are looking forward to because I think we are way superior to the competition here.
“This team (Under-16) are champions from they were playing Under-14. Hence, I am pretty confident in their ability to beat St James High or Holland in the finals. We just have to go out there, protect the ball, and execute on offence.”
St James High head coach Omar Taylor said they have learned from last year’s disappointment and he is confident that they will get over the line and break Herbert Morrison’s winning run.
“We are very confident,” Taylor said. “Last year, going into the playoffs, we were the favourites but faltered. We saw it as something to learn from, so this year, we have been working harder on different aspects of our game. I am confident that we will go out and do what we have to do.”
