Jaheel Hyde of Jamaica stands on the podium after winning the silver medal in the men’s 400-metre hurdles during the athletics competition in the Alexander Stadium at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, on Saturday.

MEN’S 400M hurdler Jaheel Hyde tagged another silver on to the medal table for Jamaica after finishing in the middle of a three-man battle coming off of the final bend.

Fast-starting twice former World Junior Champion Hyde, the bronze medallist in Australia four years ago, went one better but could not respond to a late surge from defending champion Kyron McMaster of the British Virgin Islands.

McMaster won in a time of 48.93 against Hyde’s 49.78 with Guernsey’s Alistair Chalmers third.

“It was not quite the race I wanted to run – I messed up my strides over the first part of the race – they were a bit too short – but it’s a bit cold so I’m happy to finish injury free and I’m pretty happy with a silver medal.

“I always set off fast but I think I could have done it more efficiently.

“I can take a lot of positives from this season – it’s probably been my best.

“Third and now second – it’s always good to improve on your last performance.”
