#Carifta2023 | Beckford, Baker through to 400mh final
Jamaica’s Alliah Baker and Tonyan Beckford are through to the final of the women’s under-20 400-metre hurdles at the 50th Carifta Games in Nassau, Bahamas.
Beckford, running in the first heat of the day, cruised to one minue, 01.04 (1:01.04) seconds to win the first semi-final heat of the morning.
The Jamaican finished ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s Natasha Fox, who clocked 1:01.52 in a heat where all the participants qualified.
Haiti’s Gloria Guerrier was third in 1:01.57 to grab the third automatic qualifying position from the heat.
Barbados Brieanna Boyc, 1:05.25, and French Guiana’s Amely Pulcherie, 1:05.94 made the final as the two non-automatic qualifiers.
Minutes later, Baker, 1:02.29, would cross the line behind the US Virgin Island’s Michelle Smith, 58.93, to book her spot in the final.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Keniesha Shelbourne grabbed the third and final qualification squad from the heat, clocking 1:02.29.
