Antonio Watson lowers his personal best in the 200 metres, weeks after doing so in the 400.

WITH TWO weeks to go before the National Championships, Antonio Watson put together a lifetime-best 200m performance at the JAAA All Comers meet at the Jamaica College Ashenheim stadium yesterday.

Watson sped to victory in a personal best (PB) effort of 20.49 seconds ahead of Rasheed Dwyer, who was second in 20.50. Class One boys’ champion Malique Smith Band was third in 20.78.

Watson’s mark surpassed his 20.52 effort in March 2020 and gave him his first 200m victory of the season and, as an added bonus, avenged his loss to Dwyer at last week’s JAAA Quest to Budapest meet at the National Stadium.

This is the second time in a matter of weeks Watson is lowering a PB, after running 44.75 at the Racers Grand Prix.

In section two, Zidane Brown won in 21.16 while Mazhino Brown was second in 21.49. Emmanuel Rwotomiya of Kingston College was third in 21.83.

Jodean Williams ensured a Racer’s Track Club sweep of the 200 metres, winning the women’s equivalent in 23.17. Janielle Josephs was second in 24.31, while Tijeana Bogle of Mico was third in 27.08

In the men’s 400m hurdles, Malik James King from Titans Track Club captured victory in 49.66 while his teammate Assine Wilson was second in 49.72. Robin Black was third in 51.14.

800m WIN FOR LUKE

Dennick Luke of GC Foster College won the men’s 800m in 1:50.21 minutes with Chris Smith finishing second in 1:53.79 and Corland Chambers, third in 2:04.36.

In the men’s 400m, Anthony Cox stormed to victory in 46.41 in section one ahead of Paul Henry of New Era Track Club, while Rwotomiya who competed earlier in the 200m was third in 46.81. In section two, Janoi Brown won in 47.69 while Titans’s Kemar Davis was second in 49.00. Cris Smith was third in 52.20. It was Cox’s first win of the season after previous fourth-place finishes at the Racers Grand Prix on June 3 and the John Wolmer Track Meet on March 18. Cox did not finish his race last week at the Quest to Budapest, a race that was won by Deandre Watkin of Elite Performance.

In the women’s 400m, Tovea Jenkins of Sprintec took the event in 54.69 ahead of Akrisa Eristee, who was second in 54.84. Jenkins’ clubmate, Aishath Hassan, was third in 56.24.
