Russell, Goule-Toppin top Jamaicans at London Diamond League meet
JANIEVE RUSSELL AND Natoya Goule-Toppin were the best placed Jamaicans at today's Wanda London Diamond League meet after securing second place finishes in their events.
Russell clocked 53.75 seconds in the women's 400 metres hurdles to clip American Shamier Little (53.76) for third. World leader Femke Bol of the Netherlands won in 51.45. The time was a world lead, personal best, area, meet and Diamond League record. Rushell Clayton was fourth in 53.97.
Goule-Toppin posted a season's best one minute 57.61 seconds for in the women's 800m behind Great Britain's Jemma Reekie who won in a season's best 1:57.30.
Following her convincing win two days ago in the 200m in Monaco, world leader Shericka Jackson had to settle for third in the women's 100m in 10.94 seconds. Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Cote d'Ivoire won in meet record and 10.75. The time also equalled her season's best. Great Britain's Dina Asher Smith was second in a season's best 10.85. American star Sha'Carri Richardson withdrew 30 minutes before the race after a slight hamstring injury in the warm up area.
American Noah Lyles posted a meet record and world leading time of 19.47 to win the men's 200 metres ahead of Botswana's Letsile Teboga who was second in a personal best and area record of 19.50. Zharnel Hughes was third in a personal best and British record 19.73.
