DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Glenmuir High and 12-time winners Holmwood Technical are the two hottest senior teams in the ISSA rural schoolgirls netball competition this season, after several overwhelming wins over their opponents. Today, both teams will be in action at different venues in their final games of the second round, just two days before the quarter-finals, and both look set to score big wins and top their respective groups.

The Carline Graham-Powell-coached Holmwood, who have more than 60 goals in each of their games, will take on Manchester High in Group Two action at G.C. Foster College at 12:30 p.m. Coming off a 81-10 win over Cambridge High in their last game last Friday, another big win is expected here. A year ago, Manchester got the better of Holmwood in second-round action, and the latter will be aiming to avenge that defeat.

The Ryan Reid-coached Glenmuir will be playing their second game in five weeks and showed a bit of rust in a victory over Tacky High last week in their Group One encounter but they still won 76-7. The defending champions will take on Titchfield High at the Queen’s School at 12:30 p.m., and should shake off more of that rust with another massive win today.

In other matches today, May Day High will take on Herbert Morrison Technical at G.C. Foster College in Group One at 12:30 p.m., with Hampton High up against Manning’s School, also in a Group One fixture, at St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) starting at 11:30 a.m. Cambridge High will meet Maggotty High in a Group Two game at Manning’s School at 12:30 p.m. while former champions Denbigh High will face Morant Bay High at Queen’s, also at 12:30 pm.

In junior action, defending champions Holmwood should remain unbeaten when they take on May Day in a Group Two game at G.C. Foster College at 11:30 a.m.

The red-hot Denbigh High are on a roll and should continue their good form when they go up against Yallahs High at Queen’s, starting at 11:30 a.m.

Hampton High will face Mt Alvernia High at STETHS at 10:30 a.m, Manchester will oppose Herbert Morrison at G.C. Foster College at11:30 a.m. in Group Two, while Glenmuir play Titchfield in Group Three at Queen’s at 11:30 a.m. and Cambridge face STETHS in Group One.

In the urban area competition, joint Group Two leaders José Martí and Queen’s, with eight points each, will meet in a top-of-the-table rescheduled junior match at 1:30 p.m. at the Leila Robinson Courts.

The winners will face defending champions St Hugh’s High in one semi-final, while the losers will meet Group One winners Wolmer’s Girls in the other semi-final on Friday at the Leila Robinson Courts.
