As Arnett Gardens take on Atletico Pantoja of the Dominican Republic today in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield, the team enters the fixture knowing they are just one win away from achieving their goal of qualifying for the Concacaf Caribbean Cup.

The Junglists are seeking to book their spot in the final to ensure they advance to the Concacaf Caribbean Cup as one of the top two teams from the competition.

Arnett will be confident ahead of today’s fixture following their 7-1 drubbing of Jong Holland in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Speaking with The Gleaner before the tournament’s start, head coach Xavier Gilbert said his team’s aim is to qualify for the Concacaf Caribbean Cup and join fellow Jamaican outfits Cavalier FC and Mount Pleasant Football Academy.

“That is our objective and that is what we’re planning to do. We’ve put in everything that we need to put in to make sure that we going to join Mount Pleasant and Cavalier. We’re mindful and we’re prepared of what to expect. Hopefully, we’ll put it all together for the task at hand,” Gilbert said.

Their campaign started with a close 2-1 victory over Racing Club Aruba in the round of 16 before they returned to their attacking best with a statement win over Jong Holland.

Chavany Willis, one of Arnett’s key players so far in the competition, has urged fans to continue their support for the team as they gear up for the crucial encounter.

“We ask they just continue to support us. We’re going to do our best to bring the trophy back home,” he said.

Willis also spoke on the importance of the CFU Club Shield as a great initiative which involves teams across the Caribbean.

He said the competition provided a development ground for players in the region to hone their talent for the future of the sport.

“This tournament is good tournament for many players and their Caribbean teams. I mean, it’s a good tournament for the future.”
