JAAA boss pleased with NACAC performances
PRESIDENT OF the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), Garth Gayle, says he is pleased with Jamaica’s performance at the NACAC Senior Championships in Freeport, The Bahamas, over the weekend.
Jamaica mined 25 medals — including 10 gold, seven silver, and eight bronze — to finish second behind the United States over the weekend.
“I think the athletes did extremely well at the NACAC Senior Championships and I am very proud of them. This is a team which has been gelling for quite some time as they have been listening to their coaches, and the results have shown that,” he said.
Gayle thinks this is a good platform heading into the Tokyo World Championships.
“The showing is very positive going ahead of the World Championships. However, I must say, Tokyo is not the destination but just a stop, as I see a great future going forward with these athletes,” he said.
Asked about the status of the women’s 4x400-metre relay team, which did not compete at the championships after it was revealed they would be the only team entered, and the mixed 4x400m team, his response was: “Both teams are holding down the 16th and final places going into the World Athletics Championships, and I think, at this stage, both teams will qualify and will do well at the championships,” he concluded.
In The Bahamas, the mixed 4x400m relay quartet of Bovel McPherson, Leah Anderson, Zandrion Barnes, and Stacey-Ann Williams clocked 3:11.10 for the win.
