OUTGOING PROFESSIONAL Jamaica Football Limited (PFJL) Chairman Christopher Williams has expressed full support for his board’s decision to reject the resignation of Chief Executive Officer Owen Hill.

Williams, who will demit office on Sunday and be replaced by Livingston ‘Livi’ Morrison on Monday, said Hill’s continued leadership is vital to the league.

“I don’t think that there is anybody on the planet that would accept Owen’s resignation,” Williams said.

“He is an amazing professional, solid young man and very competent. Things happen, and that is just life, so we just have to keep pressing. I am confident that himself and the board can work things through, and of course, himself and Livi can work things through. We are good, and football is in good hands,” he said.

Hill, who has served as CEO for the past three years, tendered his resignation on Tuesday, with September 26 set as the date for it to take effect.

Williams also offered his full endorsement of incoming chairman Morrison, describing him as the right man to lead the PFJL into a new era.

“Livi brings to the table two amazing traits. One, is he is a football lover, not just from the standpoint of an administrator, but also a player; he is passionate about the game and all his life is dedicated to football. Second, he is an amazing executive and business leader, and he has proven himself in various capacities. He is well respected across corporate Jamaica, and so the PFJL is in amazing hands,” said Williams.

He added that Morrison’s background and experience make him uniquely suited to push the organisation forward.

“He is a professional and he has served on many boards and built significant relationships across the Caribbean, not just in Jamaica. He is very solid, everybody knows him and respects him, and it is good for football. He was a player and played at all levels. He was a very good player, and I am very confident that we are going to double or triple our performance, because Livi is a performer,” Williams said.

Morrison is a retired deputy governor of the Bank of Jamaica, and just completed a stint as governor of the Bank of Belize.

Morrison, who served for close to four decades at the BOJ, is recognized for his vast experience in corporate governance, strategic planning and payment system development.

His playing days were highlighted by his days at Kingston College and Santos Football Club. He was also president of Inter-Bank Football.
