Williams advances; Nugent, Brown miss the mark in 100m hurdles
Defending women’s 100-metre hurdles world champions Danielle Williams will be Jamaica’s only competitor in the women’s 100m hurdle final at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships following mixed results in Jamaica’s qualification attempts.
Williams powered home in 12.44 seconds to take the second automatic qualifying spot in semifinal three.
Amoi Brown, however, was off the pace in semifinal two as she placed sixth in 12.93s.
Ackera Nugent, one of the event’s medal contenders, had an agonising end as, sitting in the bubble as a non-automatic qualifier, she was eliminated as her time of 12.63s, was bettered by Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, who posted 12.53s.
The final is set for 8:20 a.m. Jamaica time.
