Trademarks secured affirming position as the world’s sailing capital

The British Virgin Islands has officially secured three new trademarks under the Territory of the Virgin Islands Trade Marks Act, 2013, further cementing its reputation as a premier sailing destination.
The newly registered trademarks are – The British Virgin Islands – Sailing Capital of the World; British Virgin Islands – The Undisputed Sailing Capital of the Caribbean and The British Virgin Islands – Sailing Capital of the Caribbean™
Each mark has been formally registered for a period of 10 years, beginning May 7, 2024, underscoring the British Virgin Islands’ unmatched sailing, vibrant yachting culture and as a leader in the global sailing community.
“The British Virgin Islands has long been recognised as one of the best sailing destinations in the world thanks to our steady trade winds, navigable channels, manageable currents, multiple islands and protected bays,” said Clive McCoy, director of tourism for the British Virgin Islands.
“Securing these trademarks is a powerful step in protecting our identity, strengthening our position in the international market and ensuring that travellers, sailors and partners alike associate the BVI with sailing excellence.”
According to the Tourist Board , trademarks will play a key role in global marketing campaigns, furthering the BVI’s dedication to promoting itself as being synonymous with sailing adventures.
