NOTE-WORTHY

A vicious viral rumour

About 3:30 yesterday afternoon (Monday, May 16), a viral rumour began spreading of possible civil disruptions in the downtown Kingston area. Within a few short hours the word had spread to thousands of people. Businesses closed early as staff were sent home. It was on everyone's lips. Roads were clogged as everyone tried to get home early.

If half of these people spread the word about killers in our society as quickly as word of this possible disruption was spread, we would catch every criminal in this little country of ours.

Let's stop hiding behind our grille bars and home-response security companies. Let us call each other and help the police to catch criminals.

The moment a potential criminal realises there is a good chance of getting caught, they will reconsider their actions.

Excellent advice

Your Letter of the Day on Saturday 'Bruce, go for broke' was an excellent piece of advice for Prime Minister Bruce Golding. There are so many ways in which this country has gone wrong in the past but here is a riveting solution. Please let our prime minister have the strength to stand up and do what he spoke about doing, do what is right. I, too, pray that our prime minister will tell what he knows to those that can deal with the criminal scourge destroying our dear country.

The time is now and no one else is capable of this task but Bruce Golding.

Unfortunate position

The unfortunate position Jamaica has found itself in (re: Manatt, Phelps & Phillips issue) should in no way be a time of rejoicing for any Jamaican who truly loves this country. Nor should it be seen as a golden opportunity for another party to take over the government because we all know there is no man out there like the Jesus we have read about in the bible who is blameless, spotless and without sin.

This should therefore be seen as a golden opportunity for the current government and to a lesser degree the Opposition and other leaders (if they are in deed ashamed of their sins) to bring to the table fruits worthy of repentance:

The Government must acknowledge the wrong and confess.

The Opposition must use this opportunity to search itself and see if there be any wicked and corrupt ways that would attract a similar embarrassment that this present government has brought Jamaica into, and start a process of cleansing as well before the call of any other election.
