South West St Catherine MP Everald Warmington has called for the Office of the Political Ombudsman to be abolished, as it is costing Jamaican taxpayers $18.6 million to maintain annually. What are your thoughts on the issue?
Totally in agreement with Warmington. The Ombudsman should pack his bag and goooo!
- Akeem Dobson
He should be given a stipend. That is too much money and I don't see where the Ombudsman is needed, because it's only in election time I hear of him. That money could make good use for something meaningful, e.g., schools, roads, etc.
- Atasha Harvey
I don't know that this office even achieves its intended purposes! While its responsibilities speak well on paper, on the ground, it seems like a convoluted political talk shop, with more lip service than bite! And $18.6 million is a hefty price for lip service anyway!
- Lincoln Hibbert
The amount of money being paid out annually to that office is too much. They need to revisit the finances and cut them drastically i.e., a stipend or travelling allowances.
- Florient Dawn Casserly
So true. You only hear of him doing work at election time, so if the office is to remain, pay him for work done during that period, be it one month or three months. Otherwise, close it down.

Should residents be compensated for smoke damage, nuisance or ill-health caused by the burning Riverton landfill?
Serious health concerns. Smoke is deadly and there will be definite health consequences.
- Bertitude
Yes, why not? If it wasn't for the smoke, they would have completed their daily duties.
- DallioStarr
Absolutely! The pollution will have long-term effects. The money may help them move somewhere else.
- Tanika_Rose
Definitely! Maybe then the responsible body will be held accountable for their lack of action!
