JTA to meet education minister next week
Representatives from the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) are to meet with Education Minister Andrew Holness next week to discuss the vexed issue of salary increases owed to its members.
JTA President Doran Dixon told the Gleaner Power/106 News that he has received formal notice of the meeting.
However, he says a final meeting date is yet to be decided as the education minister will be off the island for most of next week.
Meanwhile, Mr. Holness has expressed regret that the teachers were not formally informed that no provision was made for payment during this financial year.
However Mr. Holness says the government does not intend to breach its promise to increase teachers\' salaries.
He says he wants to meet with the JTA and finance ministry officials to resolve the issue.
