Persons who have been deported to Jamaica will now be able to take their personal belongings with them.

The Association for the Resettlement of Returning Residents, which has been lobbying on behalf of the Jamaican deportees, said the British High Commission and the American Embassy have agreed to the proposal.

President of the Association, Percival LaTouche said the deportees would also be able to take tools into the country.

He said they would have to prove that they have been living overseas and have accumulated the items legally.

Mr. LaTouche believes the progamme will help to curb the high levels of crime in the country.

He said the finance minister, Audley Shaw has consented to allow the items to be brought into the country free of custom duties.
