Guyana Cricket Board President, Chetram Singh has dismissed reports that star batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul had abandoned the team during the final round Carib Beer Series match.

Singh said Chanderpaul was given permission to attend the West Indies Players’ Association awards ceremony in Trinidad on Sunday.

Chanderpaul, who was unbeaten on 78 after Saturday’s opening day against the Windward Islands, was absent on the second day of the match. However, match officials were given no explanation of his whereabouts.

Confusion mounted on the second day when Gajanand Singh came out to partner skipper, Travis Dowlin instead of Chanderpaul.

Match referee, Omar Bacchus and the two umpires confirmed that they were never officially informed about Chanderpaul’s absence by the Guyana camp.
