Good start for England in South African winter tour

Andrew Strauss bagged his first hundred and Kevin Pietersen his first half-century of their South African winter tour today as England continued preparations for next week’s opening Test.



Playing against a South African Invitational Eleven, England were 317 for 5 declared on today’s opening day of the two-day warm-up match at Buffalo Park.



Strauss scored 100 off 163 balls before he retired, while Pietersen hit 71 off 101 balls.



Other useful knocks came from Alastair Cook 52 and Jonathan Trott 50.



Both batsmen also retired.
