Jamaica sprint Queen wins 100 metres

Olympic 200-metre champion Veronica Campbell-Brown stormed to victory in a wind-assisted 10.85 seconds to win the women’s 100 metres at the Thessaloniki Olympic Meeting in Greece yesterday.



Campbell-Brown, who missed an automatic spot on Jamaica’s team for the event at next month’s Beijing Olympic Games, won ahead of American Angela Williams, 11.17.



There were two other victories for Jamaica at the meet. Shereefa Lloyd 51.34 won the women’s 400 metres, while compatriot Clora Williams finished fourth in 53.38.



Ricardo Chambers, who won the men’s 400 metres in 45.37 ahead of teammate Sanjay Ayre, 46.04, recorded the other victory.



In the men’s long jump, James Beckford had to settle for seventh with a leap of 7.88 metres.



In the women’s 400-metre hurdles, Jamaican Shevon Stoddart, 56.43, finished third, while Simone Facey, 22.77, ended up third in the women’s 200 metres.
