The Jamaica Urban Transport Company (JUTC) is pondering whether to make the positions of 400 employees redundant, if the proposed voluntary redundancy does not work.
The voluntary redundancy proposal was arrived at during Sunday’s meeting between the JUTC management, the Transport Minister Mike Henry and the University and Allied Workers Union (UAWU).
The workers opting for voluntary redundancy have been given a week to submit their applications.
UAWU president Lambert Brown says the redundancy exercise is part of the restructuring exercise at the bus company.
The JUTC has been losing a $1,000,000.00 a month.
