The Spanish Town police in St. Catherine believe an elderly man committed suicide following a dispute with his common law wife.

According to police, 70 year old Shirley Brown chopped his partner several times during an alleged dispute over a gold chain.

It is reported that around 4am this morning, Brown went to Damsel Lane off Brunswick Avenue, in Spanish Town.

He reportedly got into a heated argument with 30 year old Shelly-Ann Spencer, and used a machete and a knife to inflict several wounds to her body. She has since been hospitalised.

Residents of Hoos Avenue, off Brunswick Avenue reportedly found Mr. Brown’s body hanging from a mango tree at the back of his house.

The police said the incident is the third case of suicide, since the start of the year in St. Catherine.
