Soldier killed while on duty in Denham Town ZOSO
The West Kingston police have launched an investigation into the murder of a Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldier during an operational tour of duty in the Denham Town Zone of Special Operation on Friday morning.
It is reported that about 1:30 a.m., the soldier was on duty along Bond Street when he was shot and killed by unknown assailants.
The police were summoned and the JDF private was found with gunshot wounds to the upper body.
He was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In a media release on Friday morning, the JDF said the Chaplaincy and Welfare Department is providing counselling and support services to the soldier's family and the Battalion to which he was posted.
"The JDF offers its sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. We kindly request that the media and the public respect the privacy of the family and our servicemembers as we navigate this sensitive situation and as we mourn the loss of one who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation," it said.
