Bobby Reid the only Jamaican in Nations League best XI
A WONDER goal against Mexico was enough to get Reggae Boyz Bobby Reid into the Concacaf Nations League Best XI following the completion of League A rounds a few days ago.
Reid opened the scoring for Jamaica against Mexico with a rocket of a half-volley from 25 yards out to help the Reggae Boyz earn a creditable 2-2 draw in their final League A game of the year.
The result put the Reggae Boyz into the Gold Cup, set for later this year.
Reid is the only Jamaican in the XI.
Reid is joined in that XI by Martinique goalkeeper Yannis Clementia; defenders: Panama’s Fidel Escobar, El Salvador’s Bryan Tamacas, United States’, and Auston Trusty; midfielders: Canada’s Jonathan Osorio, teammate Christian Pulisic, Panama’s Adalberto Carrasquilla, and Canada’s Ismael Kone; forwards: the United States’ Ricardo Pepi, and Canada’s Cyle Larin.
Clementia appeared in just one match but he delivered a top performance for Martinique, who played a man down for 55 minutes against Costa Rica. Clementia ended his night with 11 saves and eight clearances.
Escobar was a workhorse for Panama in their massive 1-0 win at Costa Rica to clinch a CNL Finals berth. He made four clearances and completed 18 of 23 passes.
El Salvador went toe-for-toe with the United States in a 1-0 defeat and Tamacas was a big reason for that, with six clearances and one steal while completing 93 per cent of his passes.
Trusty completed all 31 of his passes during the United States’ 7-1 win versus Grenada and contributed an assist, steal and clearance.
OSORIO A WIZARD
Osorio was a wizard in the Canada midfield during the 2-0 win against Curacao and 4-1 home triumph over Honduras. He had a goal, an assist and completed almost 97 per cent of his passes.
Pulisic had two assists and a goal against Grenada and would finish the window with six shots and more than 73 per cent of his passes completed.
Carrasquilla had an impact all over the field. He had a steal and made two clearances, plus registered a shot and completed all 28 of his passes.
Another composed national team performance from Kone, who completed almost 96 per cent of his passes and had two steals to go along with a clearance.
Pepi played a big role in both US wins, notching a brace against Grenada, while coming off the bench to supply the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win versus El Salvador.
Larin was on target for Canada, scoring in the 2-0 win at Curacao and then two goals in three minutes against Honduras. He also had a clearance.
