Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz are without a victory after three games in Group B of the Gold Cup qualifiers, despite a spirited 1-1 effort against Panama inside the National Stadium tonight.

The match started cagey, with both teams showing respect for each other. The Reggae Girlz went close to getting the opening goal in the ninth minute, as a Marlo Sweatman attack failed to land on the boots of a teammate, with the ball rolling across the Panamanian goal.

Panama, who looked out of sorts for the first 30 minutes, gained a penalty in the 34th minute from a foul inside the area, which was converted by Marta Cox, who sent goalkeeper Serena Mensah in the opposite direction.

On the stroke of halftime, the Reggae Girlz managed to equalise through a brilliant one-time effort from the diminutive Shaneil Buckley after a magnificent cross inside the box from Malikae Dayes.

In the second half, Jamaica had the better chances to score but they fell short of their intended target.

The 1-1 draw leaves Jamaica on two points from three games and bottom of the three-team table, behind leaders Panama on seven and Guatemala on four.
