Walker claims World Vet Day Trophy aboard Sheer Delight
OMAR WALKER, six-time top rider, rolled back the years at Caymanas Park yesterday, driving home United States-bred SHEER DELIGHT to victory by a head against local-bred RHYTHM BUZZ, denying reigning champion jock, Raddesh Roman, a hat trick of wins to close the nine-race card.
Walker’s win astride 5-2 chance SHEER DELIGHT in the World Vet Day Trophy at a mile put the brakes on Roman, who had registered back-to-back victories aboard KING’s CROWN and FEARLESS MISSION, expecting to close a hat trick with 3-2 favourite RHYTHM BUZZ, who lost by a head in a driving finish.
Roman’s double pushed him to 31 wins atop the standings, 10 clear of Shane Ellis, who had no mounts on the programme.
Meanwhile, Wesley Henry joined Walker in hoisting the flag of former champion riders, booting home a two-timer, his third winner on break from Gulfstream Park in Florida.
Henry, who moved his local tally to 768 winners with BROMPTON BOY on his first day back at Caymanas last Saturday, struck with BLITZ STRIKE in the third followed by BESTDAUGHTERINLAW, who made all at four furlongs straight in the fifth.
Racing continues this afternoon with a 10-race card.
The card will have, as its feature, the Legal Light Trophy, where RUN JULIE RUN is expected to have an easy day.
RUN JULIE RUN has a 14lb weight swing on American INSPIRE FORCE out of last month’s Alexander Hamilton Memorial at seven furlongs, a weight advantage which should hand the Jamaica Derby runner-up the feature on a platter at nine furlongs and 25 yards.
INSPIRE FORCE, returning with 126lb under Roman with no weight claim, 17lb heavier, a 14lb swing in favour of RUN JULIE RUN, kills the foreigner’s chances, even at what is an extended trip.
RUN JULIE RUN can now watch stablemate GEOLITHIC destroy NEO STAR on the lead before making her move well ahead of INSPIRE FORCE, who is simply too heavy to maintain pace on the circular-nine course.
