Government on high food prices

Government has subsidised five basic food items at a cost of about $300 million to cushion the effect of sharp price increases.
This is part of the government’s plan to spend $500 million to ease the burden of high prices on the poor.
The subsidy will take the form of the removal of import duties on the specific items.
