Grange establishes committee to probe JBC archive
Information Minister, Olivia Grange, established a special committee to examine the current arrangements for safekeeping materials in the archives of the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC).
This follows reports that 80 percent of the materials were stolen from the Half Way Tree based archives between 2004 and 2007.
Ms. Grange said the committee is to make recommendations, to ensure that the most effective methods are implemented to prevent a repeat of this situation.
Veteran journalist and television producer Owen James will chair the committee.
Other committee members are former Police Commissioner Colonel Trevor McMillan, broadcaster Tony Patel and historian Ken Jones.
The Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) of the Half Way Tree police are investigating the theft.
Ms. Grange is urging people with vintage recordings to submit copies to help to rebuild the archives.
