There is a particular kind of despair that does not come from a diagnosis itself, but from what follows: “There is nothing more we can do.” For thousands of people living with stroke, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord damage, those words often mark the end of conventional treatment, and the beginning of uncertainty. But emerging approaches in regenerative medicine are beginning to challenge that finality. According to regional physician Janice Simmonds Fisher, the conversation around neurological recovery is evolving.
