TCN CAUTION - Gov’t urged to weigh legal liabilities as 22 deported foreigners arrive under US deal

The arrival of 22 Latin American and European migrants at Norman Manley International Airport under the controversial third county nationals agreement (TCN) has triggered a warning from one political analyst that Jamaica could face legal liabilities. Fuel crisis hits Indonesia’s Bali, triggers long lines in gas stations for days

‘CAN OF WORMS’ - JC principal expects internal reviews, further fallout after being booted from Walker Cup, docked points

When news broke that Jamaica College (JC) was facing punishment for the use of an ineligible player in the ISSA Walker Cup knockout competition, the Old Hope Road-based institution had hoped that the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) would rule in its favour. However, the verdict went against the school, leaving JC to come to terms with significant sanctions. Richard Mullings, president of The Incorporated Masterbuilders Association of Jamaica, said many contractors are avoiding government work in favour of private projects, where they are paid on time. The association represents most of the island’s major builders and construction contractors. The Government, however, blamed an apparent lack of large contractors for slowing hurricane rebuilding.

Editorial | Who has it in for the CCJ?

Were this newspaper given to conspiracy theories, it might believe that there is a deliberate attempt to undermine and collapse the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) from within. Either that, or some people at the court possess disastrously poor judgement. The Gleaner makes these observations in the context of a new round of leaked internal, and presumably confidential, emails in which one of the court’s justices, Peter Jamadar, again criticised its president, Winston Anderson, this time over the conduct of an investigation into the first set of leaks.
