For Miami-based teacher Primrose Thompson, arriving in Jamaica for carnival had an unexpected highlight. Stepping off her flight at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) on Monday, she was greeted by a lively welcome experience powered by Sparkling CranWATA, setting the tone for her return to the island.
Thompson, who travelled solo for her second carnival in Jamaica, was among revellers who were greeted by the surprise activation. The arrivals area was transformed into a vibrant carnival hub complete with cocktails, giveaways and photo opportunities.
“I didn’t expect that at all,” Thompson said. “As soon as I stepped through, the music, the energy, everything just came alive. It felt like carnival started right there in the airport.”
She noted that her decision to return was an easy one, having had what she described as “one of the best experiences” during her first visit to Carnival in Jamaica.
Unlike many revellers, Thompson does not play mas in a band, opting instead to experience carnival on her own terms.
“I actually love the freedom of not being in a band,” she explained. “I go to the parties, I enjoy the music, and I can move how I want. Jamaica carnival gives me that balance where I can be part of the experience without feeling restricted.”
She added that the blend of soca and dancehall, along with the overall atmosphere, continues to draw her back to the island.
The airport experience formed part of a two-day activation by Sparkling CranWATA on Monday and Tuesday, welcoming incoming visitors and introducing them to the brand’s carnival offerings ahead of road march day.
Brittany Thwaites, brand manager for the WATA Portfolio at Wisynco Group Limited, said the activity was designed to create a memorable first impression for visitors.
“We wanted to capture the energy of carnival from the moment travellers arrive, while also showcasing Jamaica’s warmth and hospitality,” Thwaites said. “It’s about setting the tone for the week and giving revellers a glimpse of what they can expect.”
