Childhood friends Tajay Mair and Paige-Marie Edmondson shared a sweet connection from an early age through occasional playdates arranged by their families. At the time, Tajay lived in Westmoreland, while Paige-Marie resided in Montego Bay, St James, before later moving to the westernmost parish at 18. Their reunion reignited a friendship and would blossom into a romance that would ultimately lead them down the aisle..

Paige-Marie fondly recalled finding Tajay a little annoying when they were younger — though, she added, it was in the cutest way possible. “He was always finding ways to bother me, but he always made me laugh, even when I pretended he was getting on my nerves.”

Tajay’s recollection of those earlier days was equally light-hearted. “I thought she was interesting and a little weird, but in the funniest and most lovable way. As we got older, I watched her grow into this outspoken, confident and incredible woman, and I admired her more with every passing year.”

When Tajay and Paige-Marie reconnected, he discovered a love unlike any he had known before. “After experiencing heartbreak in high school, I honestly thought I’d never love someone that deeply again. Then Paige and I reconnected. She showed me what healthy, genuine love really looks like. Loving her is peaceful, patient and full of understanding,” Tajay told Island Wedding.

After reconnecting, the pair’s first date was at the Palace Multiplex to watch Avatar, an occasion Paige-Marie remembered fondly. “We laughed the entire time, talked for hours, and just genuinely enjoyed each other’s company. Looking back, it was one of those moments where everything felt effortless,” she shared.

That Christmas, Tajay asked Paige-Marie to be his girlfriend. As their relationship blossomed, Paige-Marie came to appreciate the qualities she admired most in him. “He has a way of making everyone around him laugh. He stays calm in almost every situation, thinks carefully before making decisions, he’s incredibly smart, and has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I’ve ever met,” she revealed.

Before Tajay, Paige-Marie said she was quick to get upset and always felt the need to protect herself. “I had built up walls over the years, but somehow he quietly tore them down. His calmness became my calmness. Whenever I got overwhelmed or frustrated, he’d simply hold my hand, smile, and say, ‘Relax, it’s not the end of the world’. Somehow, those few words always brought me peace. He taught me that not every battle needs to be fought and that love can be gentle.”

Their relationship also helped her overcome a personal fear of trucks. “I used to be terrified. Tajay, who works in trucking, patiently helped me overcome that fear by bringing me along on the road. What once scared me became something I associated with adventure, laughter, and time spent together.”

She added, “No matter what life has thrown at us, we’ve faced it together”.

The admiration was mutual. Phenomenal, beautiful, classy, intelligent and understanding were just a few of the words Tajay used to describe Paige-Marie. “She’s beautiful inside and out, and carries herself with such grace. She is incredibly smart, and has a heart that’s always willing to understand and support the people she loves,” he shared, adding, “Through honest communication and unwavering support, she always reminds me that we’re a team.”

As the relationship grew, their journey came full circle when the couple welcomed their greatest joy, Azaire, into the world. “Becoming parents strengthened our bond and gave us even more reason to build a life together,” the proud mom said.

When it came to their favourite places to unwind, Tajay confirmed that it was anywhere in a truck. “Those rides are where we laugh the most, have our deepest conversations and make some of our best memories together.”

It was also during one of the most difficult periods of his life that Tajay realised Paige-Marie was the one. “While everyone could see my problems, she was the one who stayed, listened, helped me find solutions and encouraged me every step of the way. She believed in me when I struggled to believe in myself, and that’s when I knew she was someone truly special.”

After more than two years of dating, Tajay decided to pop the question during the same season in which he had asked Paige-Marie to be his girlfriend. “I wanted the proposal to be intimate because that’s always what she wanted. I was extremely nervous, but I reminded myself that I was asking my best friend to spend forever with me. At our family Christmas dinner, I finally asked her to marry me, and it turned out even better than I had imagined.”

With nuptials ahead, the engaged couple worked closely with the bride-to-be’s mother to personalise the wedding. On July 18, Tajay and Paige-Marie became Mr and Mrs Mair at the St James Parish Church in Montego Bay before celebrating with a reception at the Stay Yah Jamaica villa. The beautiful bride remembered soaking up every smile, every laugh, every tear and every hug. “I genuinely enjoyed every second of the day.”

For the groom, the day’s greatest reward was seeing his wife enjoy the fruits of their labour. “The best part of the entire day was seeing Paige genuinely happy. I knew how many late nights we spent planning, how much stress she carried trying to make everything perfect, and watching her finally relax and enjoy herself made every bit of the hard work worthwhile. Seeing her smile as she walked up the aisle is a moment I’ll never forget.”

For their first dance, the newlyweds chose Fire on Fire by Sam Smith. “We actually tried learning a choreographed routine beforehand, but we quickly realised we both had two left feet! We laughed, gave up on the choreography, and decided to simply dance however the moment felt. It turned out to be one of my favourite memories because it was filled with laughter, happy tears and genuine emotions,” Mrs Mair highlighted.
