Powerade staged its Wellness Meets Performance Pilates showcase at the GWM Jamaica showroom last Saturday, creating a dynamic space where wellness and performance came together. For first-time attendee Sky Cammock, the event was more than just a workout, it was the beginning of a new journey.

“I’ve been wanting to try Pilates and this seemed like a really good opportunity to get a feel for it,” Cammock shared.

It was her first class, and she admitted she expected it to be difficult. “It was definitely difficult, probably a little more than I expected. I didn’t think I would feel pain similar to using weights, which was interesting because this was all body weight.”

She found the pulses most challenging, but she lit up when talking about the core exercises: “I think those were easier to follow through.” Physically, she felt the burn — “a good burn” — and emotionally, she described Pilates as “a fulfilling, community-centric hobby.” By the end of the session, Cammock was already looking ahead: “I could definitely see myself doing this regularly. The results I will eventually have if I continue excites me.”

Savannah-Paige Blake, marketing coordinator for Powerade, explained why the brand chose Pilates as the centerpiece: “Pilates felt like a natural fit because it brings together strength, control, movement and mental focus, which are all important elements of performance and overall well-being. For Powerade, this experience was about showing that performance isn’t only about pushing harder; it’s also about understanding your body, finding balance, and giving yourself the right tools to perform at your best.”

Certified mat pilates instructor and founder of Core Club Victoria Colahar emphasised the unique value of guiding first-time participants: “I love making people feel comfortable in something that may be completely new to them. Pilates can feel intimidating at first but, at Core Club, we’re known for creating a safe space. My goal is always to make clients feel supported, confident, and excited to move.”

She explained the benefits beginners often discover: “They usually leave feeling stronger, more connected to their body, and surprised by how much they actually worked. Pilates really teaches you to move with intention, and people often feel muscles they’ve never felt before.”

Victoria described the signs that someone has connected with the instructions: “That little ‘aha!’ moment when the movement finally clicks, you can literally see it in their face and hear it when they say, ‘OMG, I feel it!’ That’s when you know they have found the connection.”

Her advice for Cammock and others inspired to continue was simple: “Don’t judge your body or your ability after one class. Give yourself time to learn, build strength, and get comfortable. Consistency is where the magic happens. I always celebrate those moments when I see someone flowing so well and getting stronger. It truly makes me happy to see.”
