Thirty-three-year-old Shamar Champagne, one of two men accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint in Portmore, St Catherine last year, has been charged.

He is charged with robbery with aggravation and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Champagne, of Potterdale Plac in Cumberland, Portmore, was charged on Tuesday by detectives assigned to the Portmore Criminal Investigation Branch.

His co-accused, Leon Pennicooke, had previously been charged in connection with the incident.

It is alleged that about 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2025, the woman was standing along Port Henderson Road in the vicinity of Greater Portmore when a black Honda Stream motor car stopped and two men approached her.

Police allege that Pennicooke pointed a firearm at the woman and both men robbed her of a knapsack valued at $3,000, which contained an iPhone 12 Pro Max and an iPhone XR, before escaping in the vehicle.

A report was made to the Portmore police station and an investigation was launched.

Champagne was allegedly identified during an identification parade and later charged following a question-and-answer session in the presence of an attorney.
