When Jamaica's technology leaders gathered to select the Jamaica Technology & Digital Alliance (JTDA) Council for the 2026-2028 term, one of the names chosen was a professional whose work has largely happened behind the scenes — building the digital systems that keep critical industries moving.
Calmin Scarlett, software development team lead at ADVANTUM, has been
appointed to the JTDA Council, placing him among a group of professionals tasked with helping to shape the future of Jamaica's technology and innovation ecosystem.
For Scarlett, the appointment reflects more than individual achievement. It
represents the growing influence of Jamaican technology professionals who are applying innovation to solve real-world business challenges.
Over the past several years, Scarlett has played a key role in developing software solutions that support the movement of goods, management of workforces, and operation of businesses across Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. Through ADVANTUM's suite of logistics, labour, and resource management platforms, his work has contributed to the digital transformation of industries that form the backbone of regional trade and economic activity.
Founded in 1981, ADVANTUM has long been recognised for delivering technology solutions to ports, shipping companies, freight operators, warehouses and other organisations throughout the region. The company's systems support critical logistics operations and have helped organisations improve efficiency, visibility and decision-making through technology.
Scarlett's appointment comes at a time when Jamaica continues to accelerate its digital transformation agenda. As businesses increasingly adopt automation, artificial intelligence and data-driven technologies, organisations such as the JTDA play an important role in bringing together industry leaders, innovators and technology professionals to help guide that progress.
For ADVANTUM, the recognition highlights the expertise being developed within
Jamaica's technology sector and the opportunities for local talent to influence national conversations around innovation.
It also reinforces an important reality: technology leadership is no longer confined to traditional IT companies. Increasingly, some of the country's most impactful digital innovations are emerging from sectors such as logistics, supply chain management and business operations, where software is transforming how organisations work and compete.
As he begins his tenure on the JTDA Council, Scarlett brings with him the
perspective of a technology professional whose work connects software development with practical business outcomes. It is a perspective that reflects the evolving role of Jamaica's tech sector — one focused not only on creating technology, but on using it to solve problems, strengthen industries and help position Jamaica for the future.
