Four people were killed early Saturday in a three-vehicle crash in St Ann, a police report has revealed.

A 53-year-old man also died in a two-vehicle crash in St James early Saturday, pushing the number of road deaths to five over a two-hour span.

Thirteen people died on the nation’s roadways in the last seven days, police data shows.

The identities of the three men and one woman killed in the St Ann crash have not yet been released.

The crash occurred about 2:30am along the Bull Point main road near Fisherman’s Beach and the entrance to the Columbus Heights road.

Two Mercedes Benz motorcars involved in the collision had no registration plates affixed, according to the police report seen by The Gleaner.

The police report cited excessive speeding “with no regards to conditions”, overtaking improperly on the “offside” of the roadway and “apparent” error of judgment as possible causes of the deadly collision.

The St James crash occurred almost two hours later along the Lilliput main road.

Failure to keep to the proper traffic lane, apparent error of judgement and diverted attention were cited in the police report as the possible causes.

A total of 290 people have died in 248 fatal collisions since the start of the year, according to the latest police statistics.

Road fatalities are down nine per cent year-to-date while fatal crashes are down eleven per cent.
