Legacy Isle in for a Reggae Trophy cakewalk

MOUTTET Mile bridesmaid LEGACY ISLE opens his season with what is expected to be a cakewalk for 50 points towards 2026 qualification, facing old rival PACK PLAYS in Saturday’s Reggae Trophy at five furlongs straight.
Reporting with topweight 126lb after his 1:04.2 stroll in December’s Chris Armond Sprint at five and a half furlongs, LEGACY ISLE allows PACK PLAYS 14lb after Richie Shakes’ weight claim is deducted.
However, in six meetings in the past year, save an astounding fourth-place finish last April, LEGACY ISLE gave up loads of weight, yet finished ahead of PACK PLAYS on five subsequent occasions, at varying distances, including a disdainful win in the Chris Armond Sprint.
Making matters worse, PACK PLAYS will break from the innermost draw, whereas LEGACY ISLE has the track bias in his favour over a distance at which he clocked 57.2 with topweight in May 2025.
Armed with 120 Mouttet Mile points after victories in the early-season Eileen Cliggott Memorial and Chairman’s Trophy at six and a half and seven and a half furlongs, respectively, PACK PLAYS had a lot of fun while the cats were away, sitting second behind defending champion RIDEALLDAY, who qualified with a track-record run in the recent win-and-you’re-in Ian Levy Cup.
Last year’s Bruceontheloose Cup winner, OF A REVOLUTION, share joint third on 110 points with BARNABY and GIRVANO, followed by SUPERNATURAL POWER on 90, an All-American cast to round off the top-five.
Caught trying to steal consecutive Mouttet Mile races from in front, grabbed at the wire by FUNCAANDUN in 2024 and obliterated in the stretch run by RIDEALLDAY last year, LEGACY ISLE, at age six, could have his last hurrah in December.
As the season progresses, LEGACY ISLE will be aiming at one of two grade-one races in June, the Eros Trophy at seven furlongs or the SVL 24th Anniversary at five and a half, after which he could go full tilt at July’s Diamond Mile, the year’s second win-and-you’re-in.
