Ian Facey enjoyed a slim lead of just one shot at the end of the first round of the JGA’s (Jamaica Golf Association) National Amateur Golf Championship at the Caymanas Golf Course in St Catherine. The three-round championship started on Friday with a strong field of current and former national golf champions.

Facey carded two over par 74 after a dream start of two birdies. He then dropped shots on hole number three and eight to score even par 36 at the halfway mark. The back nine yielded a birdie on hole number 15 but he was pegged back by a double bogey on hole number 11 and a bogey on number 18 for a two over score.

Former national amateur champion Zandre Roye shot three over par 75 and occupied the second position at the end of round one.

Defending champion Ryan Lue is also trailing the leader but by only two shots. His scorecard showed four birdies which were cancelled out by four bogeys and two double bogeys. His round one score of four over par 76 is within sight.

The top three golfers in the Men & Men’s Senior 7-12 category are Cedric Blair on 11 over par 83, Bruce Levey, 13 over par 85, and Dr Carl Bruce with a similar score.

Wayne Chai Chong, 76, Mike Gleichman, 81, and Mike Boyd, also on 81, occupied the top three spots in the Men’s Super Senior 1-12 category.
