Sts Peter and Paul Preparatory School successfully defended their title at the 20th staging of the Mona Preparatory Invitational track meet, emerging champions once again when the event was held on Saturday, May 30, at the Jamaica College Ashenheim Stadium.

The victory marked back-to-back championships for Sts Peter and Paul, who also captured the title in 2025, as hundreds of young athletes from preparatory schools and track clubs across Jamaica gathered for a day of spirited competition and outstanding performances.

The annual meet provided an exciting preview of what fans can expect at the upcoming JISA Prep Championships.

Athletes delivered strong performances throughout the day, with several competitors distinguishing themselves in their respective classes. Class One Girls champion Tiaria Blake of Rhymars Track Club produced one of the most dominant displays of the meet, amassing 25 points through victories in the 100m, 200m and a second-place finish in the long jump.

Khariah Peart of Mount Saint Joseph Prep topped the Class Two Girls division with 23 points, excelling in the 100m, long jump and 60m events. In the boys' categories, Shakur McLean of Codners Academy emerged as the leading Class Two athlete with 22 points, while Falcons Athletics athletes Rashawn Mullings and Andrew Warren shared top honours in Class One Boys with 18 points each.

Justin Stultz of Stella Maris Preparatory secured top spot in the Class Three Boys division with 15.5 points, while Kylescia Bennett of Immaculate Preparatory and Layla Watts of Stella Maris Preparatory shared top honours in the Class Three Girls category with 16 points each.

Falcons Athletics enjoyed a particularly successful outing, securing multiple podium finishes and reinforcing its reputation as one of the island's leading youth track programmes. Mount Saint Joseph Prep also produced several standout performances, while Sts Peter and Paul's championship campaign was bolstered by strong contributions from athletes across multiple age groups.

The 2026 staging held special significance as it marked the 20th anniversary of the meet. To commemorate the milestone, organisers paused the day's proceedings to honour two individuals whose contributions have played a major role in the growth and success of both the meet and Mona Preparatory's sporting programme.

Veteran physical education teacher and track coach Locksley Anderson was recognised for more than three decades of service to Mona Preparatory School and youth athletics.

Former Mona Preparatory Parent-Teachers’ Association president, sports committee chairman, and long-serving organising committee chairman, Courtland Soares, was also honoured for his decades of dedicated volunteer service.

Principal Citrine Dixon said the event's 20th staging was a fitting celebration of both athletic achievement and community partnership.

"The Mona Preparatory Invitational track meet has become an important part of our school's sporting legacy. This year's competition showcased exceptional talent, sportsmanship, and determination from athletes across the island. We were also delighted to recognise Mr Anderson and Mr Soares, whose contributions have helped make this event what it is today."

Founded to provide meaningful competitive opportunities for young athletes, the Mona Preparatory Invitational has grown steadily over two decades into one of Jamaica's most respected preparatory school athletics events, continuing to inspire and develop future champions.
