Digicel appoints former Telefónica officer as group chief business officer

Digicel Group announced on Monday the appointment of Salvador ‘Salva’ Hierrezuelo as group chief business officer.

He brings more than 20 years of experience, and his position became effective on September 1.

Hierrezuelo joins Digicel following a career with Telefónica across Latin America. Most recently, he led Movistar Empresas at Telefónica Chile, with responsibility for the company’s B2B business across large enterprises, SMEs and the public sector. Under his leadership, the business accelerated sales and returned to revenue and margin growth.

Before moving to Chile, Hierrezuelo served as chief operating officer of Telefónica Tech in Brazil, where he led the development of its cloud and technology business, delivering strong growth and supporting its expansion through acquisition. His earlier roles at Telefónica spanned enterprise technology, infrastructure and security, customer engineering, strategy and M&A.

The appointment comes as Digicel’s financial position continues to strengthen. The Caribbean and Central American operator reported revenue of roughly US$1.8 billion and adjusted EBITDA of US$710 million for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, with an earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) margin above 40 per cent and net leverage of 3.2 times earnings. Fitch Rating projects adjusted EBITDA will climb further to between US$730 million and US$740 million in fiscal 2027, driven by low single-digit growth in the company’s business-to-business (B2B) and fixed operations.

Originally from Málaga, Spain, Hierrezuelo’s career has taken him across several international markets, including Brazil and Chile. He holds an International MBA from IE Business School and an MSc in telecommunication engineering from the University of Málaga, and speaks Spanish, English and Portuguese.
