THE EDITOR, Madam:

I am writing to express deep concern about the deplorable condition of the roadway from Savanna-la-Mar to Burnt Savannah, Frome P.O. in Westmoreland. This road has deteriorated to an unacceptable state and continues to cause daily hardship for residents, motorists, farmers, schoolchildren, and business operators who depend on it.

Large potholes, broken surfaces, poor drainage, and sections that become dangerous during rainfall have turned what should be a normal commute into a frustrating and hazardous experience. Vehicles are constantly being damaged, transportation costs are increasing, and taxi operators are becoming reluctant to serve some sections of the route because of the severe wear and tear.

Residents have repeatedly raised concerns, yet the situation continues to worsen. This road is not merely a convenience; it is an essential link for communities and economic activity in the parish. Farmers transporting produce, workers travelling to their jobs, and students attending school are all being negatively affected.

It is disappointing that citizens who pay taxes must endure such neglect for so long. The authorities responsible for road maintenance and infrastructure development need to urgently address this issue before accidents increase or sections become completely impassable.

Westmoreland residents deserve better. We are calling on the National Works Agency and the government to treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and carry out immediate and lasting repairs to the Savanna-la-Mar to Burnt Savannah roadway.

The people of Westmoreland should not continue to suffer in silence while critical infrastructure crumbles around them.
