Alleged fraud case involving medical doctor and co-accused moved from St Catherine to Supreme Court

The multimillion-dollar fraud case involving medical doctor Chloe Douett and her co-accused has been transferred from the St Catherine Parish Court to the Supreme Court by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The development was disclosed in court on Friday when the Clerk of Court revealed that a voluntary bill of indictment was received from the office.

Following the disclosure, Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne informed the defence of the new status of the case.

When the matter was called, only Douett was present in court.

Co-accused Dwayne Pitter was absent, with the court being told that he remains in custody at the Half-Way Tree police lock-up and was not brought to the hearing.

When the matter was last mentioned on March 13, an investigator from the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) informed the court that investigations were ongoing.

The accused were taken into custody following intensive investigations by MOCA and the Financial Investigations Division into an alleged scheme involving several fraudulent transactions at financial institutions across the island.

The probe culminated in their arrest in January.

They have been charged under the Proceeds of Crime Act, the Forgery Act, and the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) Special Provisions Act.
