Value of outstanding traffic tickets hits $4.5B

A total of 1, 174,961 traffic tickets that were issued between January 2018 and January this year remained outstanding up to March 25 this year, Court Administration Division (CAD) confirmed.

Motorists owe a total of $4.5 billion for outstanding traffic tickets issued over the last eight year, authorities disclosed on Friday.

St Andrew (326,578), St Catherine (216,318), St Ann (109,881), St James (105,134) and Kingston (103,631) accounted for over 70 per cent of the outstanding tickets, according to data disclosed by CAD in response to questions submitted by The Gleaner.

CAD revealed, too, that $22.8 million was collected from 6,139 tickets during the recent Traffic Ticket Day at the St Catherine Parish Court.
