Berger expands community drive with police station upgrade

Berger Paints Jamaica has stepped up its community efforts with a series of public-space improvements, most recently at the Hunts Bay Police Station in St Andrew.
Earlier this year, the company donated paint and coating supplies for a facelift of the facility. The work, now complete, has refreshed the station’s appearance, creating a cleaner and more professional environment for officers and the public.
The project forms part of Berger’s wider programme of community partnerships with civic groups, schools and government agencies. The aim is straightforward: to restore and maintain shared spaces across the island.
“For many years, Berger Paints Jamaica has been a steadfast and valued partner of the St Andrew South Police Division,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Damion Manderson, commanding officer of the St Andrew South Police. “We’d like to extend sincere gratitude to Berger for their continued support and investment in creating cleaner, more welcoming and aesthetically pleasing environments. This contribution not only enhances the physical appearance of our facilities, but also supports our ongoing commitment to excellence.”
Other projects have followed a similar pattern. In St Elizabeth, Berger supplied paint for the refurbishment of the Black River Post Office, helping to improve the conditions for staff and customers. In southeastern Clarendon, it supported community upgrades to public spaces, some of which were damaged during Hurricane Melissa last October. The interventions are small-scale but targeted, focusing on areas where physical improvements can have an immediate impact.
Education is also a central pillar of the company’s outreach. At St Jude’s Primary School, Berger contributed to a beautification project aimed at creating a more welcoming learning environment. Improvements included repainting walls, refurbishing planter boxes and refreshing bathroom facilities.
Veronica Taylor-Smellie, president of the Kiwanis Club of New Kingston, which partnered on the initiative, welcomed the support. “We are extremely grateful to Berger for partnering with us on the St Jude's Primary School beautification project. Through Berger's generous donation of paint, we were able to refurbish planter boxes, refresh the school's bathrooms, and brighten walls throughout the compound. While the day's activities also included planting flowers, Berger's support played a critical role in transforming the space and creating a more welcoming environment for students and staff. We thank Berger for its support and look forward to continuing this valued partnership.”
For Berger, such efforts are part of a broader corporate strategy rather than one-off gestures. The company frames its role as extending beyond its core business of paint production to supporting the spaces Jamaicans use daily.
“At Berger, we believe our role extends beyond providing quality paint products. We are committed to supporting initiatives that improve the spaces that matter most to Jamaicans, whether they are schools, community facilities, government institutions, or public service buildings. Through these partnerships, we are helping to create environments that inspire pride, encourage engagement, and contribute to stronger communities,” said Dwaine Williams, general manager.
