Clarendon truck driver charged for allegedly fabricating hijacking and robbery

A 35-year-old Clarendon truck driver has been charged after allegedly fabricating a report to the police that he was hijacked and robbed at gunpoint and instead stealing the items.

Choy Shaw, otherwise called ‘Risy’, of Palmer Cross, has been charged with creating public mischief, larceny of motor vehicle and larceny as a servant following an incident in May Pen, Clarendon, on Wednesday, August 5.

According to the May Pen police, Shaw was hired to transport items for a client.

However, he later reported to the police that he had been hijacked at gunpoint by a lone assailant.

According to the police, Shaw indicated that the alleged gunman directed him to another location, where he was robbed of an Isuzu Elf motor truck, $49,000 in cash and his Samsung mobile phone.

However, the police say detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the surrounding area, which showed major inconsistencies in Shaw’s account.

Shaw was subsequently questioned and allegedly provided information that conflicted with his initial report.

He was detained and, following further investigations, was formally charged.

The truck remains unrecovered.

Shaw is scheduled to appear before the Clarendon Parish Court on Friday, September 4.
